It can be useful (and sometimes necessary) to find a private space at UVM, either for decompressing from overwhelm, for general mental health, or for taking a virtual appointment or consultation. Here's how to find and access those spaces.

Campus Locations for Private Spaces

The Dana Library and the Howe Library both provide individual private spaces in the form of "whisper booths": metal pods that have been sound-proofed, with a door that closes, to provide additional sound-baffling. Each booth holds a chair and a table, and has standard access to the campus Wifi network.

Howe Library Private Spaces

There are five whisper booths on the second floor of the Howe Library. Four of them hold one person only; the fifth one can hold 2-3 people. To find the Howe Library whisper booths, go up the main staircase next to the main entry and Circulation Desk. When you reach the second floor, the four one-person booths will be directly in front of you. The multi-person booth is to your immediate right.

Whisper booths are first-come, first-served. They cannot be reserved in advance. Additionally, seating in the one-person booths is not ADA-accessible.

Dana Library Private Spaces

The Dana Medical Library provides a number of whisper booths (known there as "study pods"), as well as small reservable spaces suitable for more than one person at a time. Study pods are single user booths with a chair and shelf.

Dana Library Study Rooms

Dana's reservable study rooms are available to currently enrolled UVM students, faculty, and staff and UVMMC employees.

  • The two small rooms (120C and 120D) are equipped with whiteboards, power, and Ethernet connections and have a capacity of 2-3 individuals.
  • The two larger rooms (120E and 120F) have wall-mounted monitors suitable for connecting a laptop. Room 120E has a capacity of 4 and Room 120F has a capacity of up to 6-8 individuals.

Reserve any of these spaces for up to 3 hours at a time. These rooms are not soundproof and voices carry even with the door closed.

Let's Talk: Same-Day Conversation with a Counselor

Let's Talk is run by the UVM Center for Health & Wellbeing Counseling and Psychiatry Services (CAPS) program.

For more information or to book an appointment, call CAPS at (802)-656-3340 or reach out to CAPS via your Wellbeing Health Portal at mywellbeing.uvm.edu.
