What is document remediation?

Document remediation is the process of fixing accessibility errors in a document. The process can apply to:
- .pdfs
- Microsoft Word documents
- Microsoft Power Point documents
- Microsoft Excel documents
- Google Docs
But the vast majority of documents with accessibility errors are .pdfs.
Why is it important to remediate documents for accessibility?

All University of Vermont documents must meet accessibility guidelines as laid out by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA-level standards. This includes:
- Alt-text for images
- Use of headings
- 12-point font as the minimum smallest size
- Appropriate color use and contrast
- Appropriate link construction and destination
- Completed document properties, including title, author, manager, and language
Focusing on document accessibility ensures that all people with disabilities -- students, staff, faculty, families, and visitors -- can access all documents.
