TypeWell
TypeWell is a real-time speech-to-text transcription system designed to provide accessibility for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. It allows transcribers to capture spoken content using a specialized abbreviation system, which is then converted into clear, real-time text for users to read on a computer, tablet, or other device. Unlike verbatim captioning, TypeWell provides meaning-for-meaning transcription, focusing on conveying the essential content while maintaining readability and comprehension.
Requesting TypeWell Services
If your SAS Specialist determines that you are eligible for TypeWell, a remote live-transcription service, this prompts Student Accessibility Services to send you an email requesting the following information:
Your Microsoft Teams or Zoom email/ID
A list of courses where TypeWell is needed
Example: BUS 1610A, ENGL 1112C
Next steps will be to borrow an external microphone. Our office will provide you with a USB-A omnidirectional microphone, as well as any necessary converters. Quality Captions will reach out with a meeting link for your courses. Services take approximately five (5) business days to set up.
