Mathematics Readiness Test
About the Test
The Mathematics Readiness Test (MRT) is a test of basic high school math skills, including algebra and trigonometry. All new first-year and transfer students must take the MRT before registering for classes. This means you need to take it before coming to Orientation.
For information about how the MRT is scored, see score interpretation guidelines.
Accessing the Test
The MRT is administered through an online homework system called WebAssign, which is used in many Math classes at UVM.
If you are entering UVM in Fall 2015 and paid your deposit before May 11, you have been registered for the MRT and should have received an email with WebAssign login information sometime between May 13 - 15.
If you need to take the MRT and have not received login information, please email email@example.com. Include both your UVM ID number and your UVM NetID, and tell us what college you are enrolled in (for example, Arts and Sciences).
Taking the MRT
Prepare for the MRT. Once you have been registered for the MRT and have received your WebAssign username/password information, go to webassign.net and log in. Once logged in, you will be able to access a set of Practice and Review Problems that you can work on at your leisure before taking the test. The practice problems have built-in help, including video tutorials you can watch if you need to review a topic, and you get several tries for each question. You can log out at any time and come back later to continue working on the practice problems.
Take the MRT. The MRT is timed. You will have 45 minutes from the time you open it to complete the test. Be sure to have a pencil or pen and plenty of scrap paper on hand before you begin, and do not open the MRT until you are ready to take it; there is no way to pause or stop the clock. You will get get two tries for each question on the MRT, and must complete the test without any outside assistance and without reference materials of any kind. Do not use a calculator.
Extended Time. Students needing extended time on tests, contact the ACCESS Office before taking the MRT.
