Whether you are looking to become a professional grower, or just grow plants at home, this course provides the basics of the main crops, their culture and problems, along with general topics such as extending the season, rotations, proper harvest, and storage methods. 
The objectives of this course are: 1. Learn basics of designing, planting, care, and harvest of vegetables and herbs in a home garden 2. Learn cultural specifics of various crops based on rotational groupings, plus harvest and storage specifics 3. Gain familiarity with some of the main varieties

This is a fully online and asynchronous course, providing students flexibility to engage with the course materials when it is most convenient for them. Students will work individually through the 10 online learning modules. The learning modules include assigned book reading, supplemental reading, and supplemental videos. The topics covered include the history of vegetable gardening, planning your garden, seed starting, watering, weeding, fertilizing, building healthy soils, composting, pests, diseases, and crop selection. The course culminates with students creating a plan for their own vegetable garden.

Students will be evaluated on weekly open-book content quizzes and a final vegetable garden planning project.
