Explores the fundamentals of music studio recording production. Topics include recording hardware, ProTools software, microphone technique, signal processing, and post production engineering. Prerequisites: MU 1770 or Instructor permission.

Course Description The course description should give students an overview of this course. This usually includes: · PURPOSE - To give students information and study into the Recording Studio Process. To understand signal flow, microphones and techniques, equalizers and compressors, mixing and production of material. · Other concepts regarding learning the UVM studio itself and how it may integrate with other studios set up and functionality. General studio management. · Weekly lectures and demonstration of recording techniques, Student class projects, individual editing and mixing assignments. Course Learning Objectives Upon successful completion of this course and the sequential courses, the student will have knowledge of the principles presented to record, mix and master projects worthy of commercial acceptability.

Evaluation

Attendance Policy and Classroom Environment Expectations: Attendance and class participation is mandatory. Each student is expected to participate with questions during class and playing instruments on projects if possible. Grading Criteria/Policies: 50% Attendance, participation, homework and quizzes. 25% Recorded/ Mixed projects 25% Final exam Absolutely no make-up quizzes or exams will be given without documented emergency. Extra work such as term papers cannot be used to substitute for a missed exam or to help improve a grade. Your final grade will be lowered one letter grade for each unexcused physical absence over two.
