Weathering the Storms

There is no longer a talk and walk scheduled for May, but we welcome you to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for our first Vermont Mesonet station on May 5th.

A mesonet is a statewide network of automated weather stations. Vermont is currently one of only twelve states without such a network. Our goal is to close this gap by installing research grade stations that collect real-time data on air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, wind speed and direction, precipitation, snow depth, and soil moisture and temperature.

As the first station in our expanding network, the Lyndonville station will serve as a prototype for a broader statewide program designed to improve flood forecasting, enhance agricultural planning, support public utilities, and help transportation and emergency response agencies prepare for and respond to hazardous weather conditions. This inaugural installation was made possible through the support of the UVM Leahy Institute for Rural Partnerships, highlighting a commitment to supporting the resilience of Vermont’s rural communities.

We would be honored to have you join us to celebrate this milestone and learn more about how the Vermont Mesonet will serve communities across the state for years to come.

Date & Time: May 5th, 2026 at 1pm

Location: Caledonia County Fairgrounds in Lyndonville, Vermont

We hope you can join us and look forward to seeing you there.
