The College of Nursing and Health Sciences is sponsoring a screening of the award-winning film “Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare” on Wednesday, May 7 starting with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by the film showing at 7 p.m. at Main Street Landing.

Nominated for the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize, the film follows dramatic human stories as well as the leaders fighting to transform a “broken, disease-management healthcare system” at the highest levels of medicine, industry, government, and the U.S. military. Highly acclaimed filmmakers Matthew Heineman and Susan Froemke show how these individuals are creating a movement that is bringing innovative “high-touch, low-cost methods” of prevention and healing into a costly, high-tech system that could reach $4.2 trillion annually within 10 years.

Dubbed “An Inconvenient Truth for the healthcare debate” by Anthony Kaufman of the Village Voice, the feature-length documentary is in keeping with CNHS Dean Patricia Prelock’s commitment to integrative health and also relates to the concept of an inter-professional health care team, which CNHS promotes to students in all majors.

Screening of Sundance’s Candescent Award winner, given annually to an outstanding socially conscious documentary film, is free and open to the public, and includes light fare and a cash bar at 5:30 p.m. Door prizes will also be provided for those who register.
