The next installment of the Burack President's Distinguished Lecture series features playwright Oliver Mayer on "Discovering the Real Self: A Meditation on Writing." The lecture, free and open to the public, will take place Thursday, Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. in the Waterman Manor, Waterman Building.

Mayer, an associate professor at University of Southern California's School of Theatre, is the author of more than 20 plays, including Blade to the Heat, which continues to receive productions around the world. His new play The Wallowa Project recently premiered in Los Angeles. He won the Alfred P. Sloan Initiative Science and Technology award for his play Dark Matters. Mayer has emerged as one of the leading voices in American theater addressing issues of identity, violence, hope and human intimacies.
