Joel Goldberg, associate professor of chemistry, has been named interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He will succeed Dean Eleanor Miller, who has held the position for the past five years. Goldberg will serve in the interim position until a new dean is in place. A search is scheduled to begin in February.

Goldberg joined the UVM faculty in 1982, following completion of his doctoral degree in analytical chemistry at the University of Michigan. He has served the University of Vermont in a number of capacities, including service as co-coordinator of the Environmental Sciences Program and as associate dean in the college.

"We are confident that he will bring effective leadership to the College," wrote President Daniel Fogel and Provost Jane Knodell in an email announcing the appointment Jan. 25, "that he will maintain the momentum established for the College under Dean Miller's leadership, and that he will be a strong contributor to the advance of University strategic initiatives."
