The Fleming Museum is the Burlington, Vt. locale for PechaKucha Night (PKN) -- a worldwide phenomenon begun in Tokyo in 2003. The premise: creative types take turns sharing ideas in a concise format, 20 images shown for 20 seconds each. The images forward automatically as the presenter speaks.
The event, which draws its name from Japanese term for "chit chat," has spread to 364 cities, Japan to Iceland to Uganda. The one rule -- beyond the snappy format -- is that each city should have only one organizer. For Burlington, that's UVM's Fleming Museum, which will host its first PKN Thursday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 adults, $3 students.
Eleven individuals -- identities ranging from architect, dietitian, furniture designer, student artist, among others -- will present.
Those interested in signing up for their own 400 seconds of fame at the next Burlington PKN, slated for Feb. 10, 2011, may contact Chris Dissinger at the Fleming Museum, (802) 656-0750, chris.dissinger@uvm.edu.
