Chief of Staff to the President

BIO

Jonathan D’Amore is Chief of Staff in the Office of the President and has been a senior member of President Garimella’s staff at the University of Vermont since 2021. He works directly with President Garimella and other university leaders on strategic initiatives and presidential communications, events, operations, and senior-level staffing. He serves as a primary liaison to the UVM Board of Trustees, and is responsible for oversight of the President’s Office, the Board of Trustees’ Office, and the Presidential Events team.

Prior to joining UVM, Dr. D’Amore served as chief of staff in the Office of the President at Saint Michael’s College (VT). In that role, he was co-chair of the college’s strategic planning process and was a campus leader for accreditation, government and community relations, and presidential communications. Before his work in the president’s office, he was Associate Dean of the College from 2013 to 2019, supervising academic advising and support services and providing direct academic counsel to students. He taught in the Department of English and the First-Year Seminar Program throughout his time at Saint Michael’s. In addition to administration and teaching, he has professional experience inside and outside academia in marketing, publishing, and university events.

Dr. D’Amore has published and presented scholarly work on intersections of fiction, memoir, and contemporary US media and publishing culture, and he earned a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Notre Dame and his master’s and Ph.D. in English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
