Dear UVM Community,
Last year, in a call to community, I underscored the need for us to continue working together to “combat racism, promote social justice, and foster greater civic responsibility.” My message highlighted several university actions to advance this important work, including the dedication of space in the Davis Center to honor our common commitment to unity, respect, diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging.
Throughout the fall semester, we were able to move this project forward with the help of Vice President Wanda Heading-Grant, and a committee comprised of students, faculty, and staff led expertly by Professor Paul Deslandes, chair of the Department of History.
Thanks to their tremendous efforts, I’m excited to share that the inaugural exhibit for that space, "Celebrating Diverse Voices at UVM: Ten Black Experiences" will open tomorrow.
We invite our entire community to join us virtually as we unveil this new space in a Teams Live Event starting at 2 p.m. It is a time to honor and celebrate not only the exceptional work of the committee who brought this initiative to life, but also the experiences of all who have made UVM what it is today.
I look forward to sharing this special moment with you.
Suresh
