About Pre-Med Advising
While the Health Professions Interest Group provides support for networking and experiential opportunities through UVMConnect and regular newsletters, UVM’s pre-health advisor (housed in the Career Center) offers proactive guidance to support pre-medical/pre-dental students in becoming confident candidates with exceptional applications who make smart decisions about when and where to apply to graduate and professional schools. Students (starting in their second semester) can self-schedule 1:1 appointments with the pre-health advisor through Handshake and all students are welcome to PreMed Pop-Ins. These group drop-ins are held weekly during the academic year (check the Events calendar on UVMConnect for schedule).
UVM does not offer a pre-med major. As you choose your course of study, you should consult our page on choosing a major and course recommendations and work with your academic advisor to plan out your schedule. All students who wish to attend medical or dental school are encouraged to reflect on and document their academic, volunteer, and shadowing experiences through the Health Professions Portfolio+ (HPP+) process. Learn more about our innovative application support on our Application Process Overview webpage.
