Jay Lane is the Crop Manager for the Research Station, where he performs agronomic operations in support of research projects. Jay returned to UVM in 2026, after graduating in 2021 with a B.S. in Environmental Science, concentrating in Agriculture and minoring in Soil Science. He has worked for a number of farming operations in Vermont and Massachusetts, including most recently as a Livestock Production Specialist at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. Jay has wide scope of expertise from basic veterinary care and animal husbandry to corn silage and hay production, to managing personnel and instructing students. He also has training in artificial insemination, welding, and diesel mechanics. Outside of his time on the farm, Jay enjoys spending his time outdoors, hiking, snowmobiling, and racing lobster boats off the coast of Maine.
