A small group of students sitting in a row of tables at the Skinny Pancake on campus. The two students in the front facing each other appear most visible – the one on the left is wearing a faded red tie-and-dye shirt and eating a meal. The student on the right is wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, and smiling while working on their laptop.

The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is a survey for eligible first-years and seniors. The NSSE asks undergraduates about their participation in programs and activities to get a better sense of how undergraduates are spending their time and what are they gaining from their college experience. By participating in the NSSE, students get to provide feedback on how the university is performing and how their undergraduate experience can be improved.

About NSSE

The NSSE is a widely administered survey that asks students to reflect on their college experience and report on what they are gaining from attending college.

UVM administers NSSE approximately every three years with the most recent occurring in 2017, 2020, 2023, and 2024 (see results here). NSSE was administered in back-to-back years to get initial feedback from the launch of the Catamount Core Curriculum in 2023. The next administration is planned for 2026.

How to Participate

The next NSSE survey administration is planned for 2026. Updated information will be posted in 2026.
