Catamount Cultural Connections has two different programs to connect international students to other people on campus: a student-to-student program and a student-and-faculty/staff program. More below!
Buddy Program (Connects New International Students & Other Students)
The Buddy Program pairs new international students with continuing students at UVM (both American students and other international students). In your first year at UVM, this is a nice way to start meeting other students and an easy way to get involved. The Office of International Education (OIE) will invite you and your buddy to join events with us, but of course we also encourage students to get together independently - share a meal, go to the gym, study together, visit an on-campus event, or just hang out! The purpose is just to make connections. Introduce your buddy to your friends and hopefully you will meet theirs.
NEW International Students: You will be emailed about how to join the program before arriving on campus, but if you want to join later, click here.
Continuing UVM Students: If you have been at UVM for two or more semesters and would like to be matched with new international students arriving on campus, click here.
Once you have signed up, you will generally hear from us in about two weeks with more information. Thanks for joining us!
Community Host Program (Connects International Students & UVM Faculty/Staff/Community)
The Community Host Program matches international students with a UVM staff or faculty member, or engaged community member, who serves as a community friend. Students and their community hosts might have lunch together on campus or get together outside of UVM to get to know one another better perhaps through a joint activity. This program is more informal and matches are made on a rolling basis.
Prospective hosts: Sign-ups depend on your affiliation with UVM.
Interested UVM staff or faculty members should complete the UVM Staff & Faculty Intake Form here.
Interested community members should complete the Community Member Intake Form here.
Interested students: Schedule a General Advising appointment here to learn more and sign up.
We will try to make a match within one month of your initial interest!
Thanksgiving Meal Program (Connects International Students & UVM Faculty/Staff/Community)
Each year, the Office of International Education helps coordinate opportunities for international students to join the homes of UVM faculty, staff, and community members for Thanksgiving dinner. This is a special opportunity for our students to learn more about this important US holiday and for our community members to share their traditions and welcome students for the day. The event is coordinated in the fall semester - we begin taking sign-ups from hosts in early October and from students a bit later in the month. If you know you would like to host and want a reminder email to sign up, email email@example.com and we will get you on our list. This program will be advertised to all international students in the fall semester, so no early reminder is necessary.
