Catamount Cultural Connections has two different programs to connect international students to other people on campus—a buddy program and a mentor program.
The Catamount Cultural Connections Buddy Program pairs American and international students. Some programming is provided by the Office of International Education (OIE) for the pairs to meet each other and spend time together. Check the OIE’s calendar for upcoming events. Students are encouraged to arrange meetings outside of the OIE events. Hopefully the pairs will meet at least 2-3 times per month.
American students who have been enrolled at UVM for at least one semester can sign up here. International students interested in the program should contact the OIE for information about how to sign up. Pairings are made at the beginning of the academic year and continue on a rolling basis as students apply. Students applying during the academic year can generally expect to be paired within two to three weeks of applying.
The Catamount Cultural Connections Mentor Program matches small groups of international students with a faculty or staff member. Some programming is provided by the Office of International Education (OIE) for the groups to meet each other and spend time together. Check the OIE’s calendar for upcoming events. Groups are encouraged to arrange meetings outside of the OIE events.
Groups are matched in late August or early September for the academic year. Groups may be matched in January as well if there is sufficient interest. Student sign-ups will be announced in the OIE newsletter. Faculty and staff sign-ups will be announced in a variety of ways around campus. For more information, please contact the OIE.
