Why Study Abroad?
Academic Richness Through a Curated Portfolio
UVM Students have the opportunity to study abroad through a wide selection of approved study abroad programs across multiple program types. Students in most UVM programs of study are able to take courses abroad which fulfill degree requirements while abroad. This requires careful planning and research, but our team and your academic advisors are here to support you. Additionally, studying in another country gives students a broader perspective to their academic career. Classes can be taken in a foreign language or in English, even in countries where English isn't the native language. There is no doubt that you can find a program that meets your academic goals!
Students can pursue a semester on a UVM Semester Program as part of a UVM cohort at a partner university abroad, can explore UVM's exchange partnerships through ISEP and a selection of direct exchange partners, or enroll in a wide array of external and direct programs that include traditional classroom learning, field based programs, and credit-bearing internships. Learn more about about our approved study abroad programs.
Programs for Multiple Financial Situations (and funding options!)
Our selection of programs includes many that cost no more (and sometimes less) than a semester would at UVM. UVM Semester, UVM and ISEP Exchange, and the UVM Field Studies in Costa Rica can apply federal aid and UVM scholarships, and federal financial aid can apply to most study abroad programs.
In addition to the scholarships and aid a student generally receives, study abroad opportunities can open the door to additional funding sources.

Understanding Yourself in the Context of the World
Studying abroad will push you to learn and grow far beyond the classroom. You will learn about other countries and cultures and, importantly, about yourself. Students often find that they come back with a clearer understanding of what they want to do in life, and how to accomplish it.
