We continue to provide graduate writing support with online consultations. Visit our online appointment calendar to learn more and to schedule an appointment.

Our online consultation platform offers many tools for working with your consultant. This captioned video demonstrates how several of them can be used.

Consultation Appointments

Individual and small group consultations, in person on the ground floor of Howe Library or online: Whether you have a draft in hand or want to brainstorm and map out ideas, our consultants--experienced graduate student writers themselves--are here to listen and provide guidance and strategies.  Read more about what to expect when meeting with a writing consultant.

Review-and-meet appointments for drafts of 10-25 pages: Make one appointment, marked Review, and upload your draft. Your consultant will use this "review" appointment to get acquainted with your project. Also make a second appointment, marked Meet, with this consultant. At the "meet" appointment, you and your consultant will discuss your project, in person or online, and determine next steps.

No Appointments Available? If you'd like to meet with a consultant and the schedule looks full, check again later. Or you can visit the UVM Writing Centers reception desk on the ground floor of Howe Memorial to learn if a consultant is available for a drop-in appointment.

Please note that the Undergraduate Writing Center has a similar scheduling system with a similar web address. If you see the Graduate Writing Center logo at the top of the screen, you know you are in the right place!

Writing Groups

In lieu of our popular writing camps and retreats, we are offering online writing groups for any program or lab whose graduate students seek peer support and accountability as they work toward long-term writing goals. All members of a group should register with uvm.mywconline.net with just one member scheduling the appointment and noting the other members’ names.

Sunday Graduate Writing Retreats (cancelled for the remainder of Spring 2020)

Please see Writing Groups, above. Sunday Graduate Writing Retreats offer a quiet, comfortable space for independent writing supported by coffee, tea, healthy snacks, and the option of meeting with a graduate writing consultant. Retreats are held in 302 Howe Memorial Library every Sunday except holiday weekends.  Space is limited to 12. Sign up on our appointment calendar up to two weeks in advance.

WriteSpace Appointments (cancelled for the remainder of Spring 2020)

If you need space during the week for independent writing, you can book one of our quiet Howe Library rooms. To book space for longer than an hour, write to gradwriting@uvm.edu for assistance.
