Admitted Students Checklist

Excited to start at UVM? Check off this list before school begins:

  Apply for Financial Aid (UVM Priority Deadline: February 1)

If you plan to apply for financial aid, begin by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov by UVM’s priority deadline, Feb. 1.

  • You can file as early as October 1 each year.
  • Enter our school code (003696) to have your FAFSA sent to UVM.
  • We’ll notify you when we receive your record. If aany additional information is required, Student Financial Services will send you a notification email.
  • Awards are offered beginning in early March.
  • Accept or decline your award when an email is sent to you in mid-June.

  Attend an Admitted Student Day (February 15, 22; March 1, 29; April 12, 15, 19, 22)

Explore life as a UVM student! Attend a presentation by the school or college to which you were admitted, tour a residence hall, taste the food, ask faculty and current students what they love about UVM and what’s ahead for you.

  Activate your UVM email

Activate your UVM email (and check it regularly). Follow steps from account management.

Sign into the application status page and review your profile and intended major. Your first-year courses will be built around this major.

Beginning in late January, students will be able to access UVM's housing and meal plan contract after paying their acceptance fee.

Through early May, new students will be able to express interest in our themed Learning Communities: Arts & Creativity, Cultural Crossroads, Honors College, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Leadership & Social Change, Liberal Arts Scholars Program, Outdoor Experience, Sustainability, and the Wellness Environment (WE).   Pay Your Acceptance Fee (due May 1)

Confirm your enrollment at UVM by submitting the $495 acceptance fee. You may do so online (preferred) by credit card or by e-check. More detailts on paying your acceptance fee.

  Sign-up for Orientation (after paying acceptance fee - registration is available 24 hours after payment, beginning in early March)

All new students are required to attend a two-day Orientation in June. You’ll meet with an academic advisor, register for classes, and get to know campus and classmates. Family can come, too – special programming focuses on their questions. A choice of session dates is available, depending on your college/school. Learn more about orientation.

  Complete Placement Tests (prior to Orientation)

Students complete placement tests to ensure appropriate advising in course selection.

  • All students must take the Math Readiness test.
  • Any student planning to enroll in French, German or Spanish courses must take the Foreign Language Placement test (even if you have not had previous instruction in the language).  There is also an optional placement test for Chinese, which can be taken at Orientation.

  Upload your photo for your CATCard (prior to Orientation)

The CATcard is the official identification card for UVM students, faculty and staff. It provides access to your meal plan, residence hall, washers and dryers, library, fitness center, free movie tickets and the local bus system.

To pick up your card, you'll need to bring a government-issued ID (like a driver's license or passport) when you come to Orientation.

  Submit Housing and Meal Contract (by May 3)

Finalize your learning community preferences. You’ll find the housing and meal plan contract in myUVM portal – click on myResLife.  

  Send Final Transcripts and AP/IB Scores

Request a final high school transcript confirming your graduation date be sent to the Office of Admissions (required). If you have taken AP or IB exams for which you hope to receive credit, have official scores sent to UVM's Office of Transfer Affairs. If you have completed college courses while in high school, request the official transcript to be sent to UVM’s Office of Transfer Affairs.   Health Requirements (submit forms in July)

All new students must submit these forms:

  • Health History form (submit by July 1)
  • Insurance decision form (submit by July 1)
  • Immunization form (submit by July 15)

  Sign up for Direct Deposit (by August 1)

Set up a direct deposit account to receive any refunds associated with your bill at myUVM. From the Student Financial Services page, under the Student Account banner, select 'Set Up Direct Deposit'.

  Pay Your Bill (by August 17)

Billing statements are issued monthly by UVM. Generally, a student's first bill for each semester will have a specific due date; subsequent bills throughout a semester are due upon receipt.  More information, including payment due dates.

  Complete AlcoholEdu and Haven online courses required of all students (by August 23)

UVM is committed to the health and safety of our students. All new students are required to complete AlcoholEdu and Haven online courses. Instructions on how to complete the courses will be emailed to students in early August.

  Complete the first-year student summer reading (by August 23)

All first-year students are required to read a common book before starting classes.  This book is used in many entry level courses (such as English 1), and serves as a basis for events and discussions throughout the first year. Learn more about summer reading.

  Set up authorized users on your account (Proxy) (once your acceptance fee is paid)

Set up your parents or others supporting the financial aspects of your education with Proxy access. By setting up someone as a Proxy, you are granting us permission to speak with that person about your financial aid and/or account and billing. You can set up multiple Proxies for your account.   Get Ready for Move-in Day and Week of Welcome (WOW)!

Move-in day is Friday, August 23, and Week of Welcome is one of UVM’s favorite traditions.
