Division of Ophthalmology

The Division of Ophthalmology at the UVM Larner College of Medicine is comprised of board-certified eye surgeons in a wide range of subspecialties. In keeping with our core values of excellence in education and research, as well as quality patient care, our faculty improve the eye health of every patient.

Education

Body

The eye is not only a "window to the soul" but also to the body’s vasculature, providing insights into systemic diseases. The Division of Ophthalmology recognizes its role in educating physicians and patients about the eye's significance in overall health. We actively teach medical students, residents, and eye care providers, often serving as a catalyst for their specialty training. Our commitment to education includes engaging in various programs and collaborating with the medical school to bring in leading experts, ensuring we stay updated on the latest advancements. By fostering a culture of continuous learning, we enhance patient care.

Research

Body

The Division of Ophthalmology is a leading clinical research center in New England, focusing on innovative treatments for vision-threatening eye diseases. Our clinical research integrates cutting-edge technologies directly in our offices, enhancing patient care.

For instance, in an active study, patients have received a novel treatment for age-related macular degeneration—now available to the broader medical community due to our research—offered for three years.

We believe our clinical research involvement not only advances future care but also supports our patients today.
