Dedicated Faculty

Body

Faculty engage in all levels of student education, with programs including a Surgery Interest Group, Clinical Core Clerkship, and Senior Majors for aspiring surgeons.

Curriculum and Clerkship

Body

Larner College of Medicine students gain early surgical exposure through modules in the Vermont Integrated Curriculum. Their clerkship includes seven weeks of general surgery with electives. Each student is paired with a mentor for in-depth learning in patient care, supported by a formal didactic curriculum and simulation lab training. Affiliates like Western Connecticut Health Network offer equivalent experiences with enthusiastic faculty.

Fourth Year Rotation

Body

In their fourth year, students complete a four-week surgical sub-specialty rotation and may join the Senior Surgery Major program to gain diverse surgical experience and conduct research, presented at an annual forum. A month-long “Boot camp” prepares surgery majors for residency.
