Welcome to the University of Vermont Health Network Department of Surgery

As Chair of the Department of Surgery, I am proud to introduce you to a dynamic and mission-driven department that is deeply committed to improving the health of our patients across Vermont and upstate New York. Our department is composed of 12 divisions—11 clinical and one dedicated to Surgical Research—with over 120 faculty members providing expert care across our six network hospitals.

Our mission is threefold:

• Delivering high-quality care to our patients with compassion and excellence.
• Innovating health care through cutting-edge clinical research.
• Educating the next generation of surgeons through rigorous and supportive training programs.

All faculty members are expected to actively engage in or support these core missions, ensuring that our department remains at the forefront of surgical care, research, and education.

We are proud to offer numerous educational and research opportunities to medical students at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine. In addition, we provide accredited postgraduate training in General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, and Urology, along with a fellowship in Vascular Surgery.
