Get Involved in Simulation
Interprofessional Faculty Development Courses
Faculty members at the Larner College of Medicine, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and UVM Health Network who are interested in simulation methodology and design are welcome to attend our Faculty Development program, held several times a year.
Participants will learn about program development, practice debriefing techniques, and design and facilitate their own simulation scenarios.
Please reach out to DON Director of Simulation Education Sarah Manacek (sarah.manacek@med.uvm.edu) for more information.
ACLS/BLS Certification and Renewal
The Clinical Simulation Laboratory is currently equipped with two sets of adult and infant CPR manikins for ACLS/BLS training.
Initial certification as part of a course is free. Renewals are $59.00 for BLS and $189.00 for ACLS, cash or check, with checks made out to The University of Vermont.
For more information on certification and renewal, please contact Matt Bellmay (matthew.belmay@med.uvm.edu).
Scrub Training Workshop
Participants in this workshop will be trained in the process of scrubbing, gowning, and gloving in preparation for entering surgical environments at UVM Health Network sites. All M2 students will complete scrub training as part of their preparation for clerkship.
Paid scrub training workshops are available for Surgery Interest Group members and other M1 students who are looking to shadow in the OR, as well as for other UVM associates. All non-clerkship scrub trainings have a $30.00 cash or check fee, with checks made out to The University of Vermont.
There is a 2-3 week minimum lead time to coordinate scrub training. Please contact CSL Administrative Assistant Cayden Hewes (cayden.hewes@med.uvm.edu) for more information or to begin scheduling a training.
Central Line Placement Training
All resident and fellow physicians at UVM Health Network sites who place central venous catheters are required to complete this mastery-level training course before rotating in the intensive care units. The Central Line Placement Training is a 2-part multi-hour training with 1-on-1 educational supervision.
This program teaches a standardized approach to central line placement and provides trainees with a safe environment to hone their procedural skills with a focus on infection prevention and patient safety.
Please contact Lead Simulation Educator Sam Paskin (samuel.paskin@uvmhealth.org) for more information.
