To address the increasing demand for health care providers, particularly in rural areas, the University of Vermont Health Network (UVMHN) has added 18 new medical professionals across various specialties in Vermont and northern New York, the Burlington Free Press reports. The new hires include physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and a certified nurse-midwife.

The new additions to the Larner College of Medicine faculty include:

  • Anthony Charles, M.D., professor of surgery, practicing at the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC)
  • Justin Knapp, M.D., assistant professor of psychiatry, practicing at Central Vermont Medical Center Woodbridge Rehabilitation and Nursing in Berlin
  • John Koutras, M.D., assistant professor of psychiatry and pediatrics, practicing at UVMMC
  • John Young, M.D., assistant professor of psychiatry, practicing at UVMMC
  • Sergio Apuzzo, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of radiology, practicing diagnostic radiology at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, New York
  • Dagmar Hoegemann Savellano, M.D., assistant professor of radiology, practicing cardiothoracic radiology at UVMMC Radiology in Burlington

All of the new providers are accepting new patients, with wait times varying by service.
