He had served as interim CEO since the departure of former UVM Health leader Sunil “Sunny” Eappen, M.D., M.B.A., last fall.
Leffler is a 30-year veteran of the UVM Health system and has served in various roles during his time there, including as medical director of the Emergency Department and as chief medical officer at UVM Medical Center. He said he is honored to take on the responsibility at this “pivotal moment” for health care.
“This moment demands clear focus on access, affordability, and quality. The challenges facing rural health care are real and complex, but I see every day the dedication and skill of our teams in serving patients,” Leffler said in a prepared statement. “Their resolve, and the patients who rely on us, are what drives me to continue pushing forward.”
