From vaccination campaigns to healthy lifestyle education and policies leading to cleaner air and water, public health efforts contribute to people living longer, healthier lives. Every April, communities across the U.S. observe National Public Health Week.

During the first full week of April each year, the American Public Health Association brings together communities across the United States to observe National Public Health Week as a time to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improve our nation's health. The April 10 episode of the University of Vermont’s Across the Fence program features Tom Griffin, Ph.D., assistant professor of medicine in the division of public health at the UVM Larner College of Medicine, discussing why public health is a public good.
