A September 2025 article in Women.com on studies linking eye color with the probability of certain health issues mentioned a 2015 study investigating a potential correlation between blue eyes and alcohol dependence co-authored by Arvis Sulovari, who was at that time a cellular, molecular, and biomedical sciences graduate student doing doctoral research in the Laboratory of Human Genetics and Genomics at UVM. Sulovari, whose mentor in the lab was Dawei Li, Ph.D., received his Ph.D. in 2017.
Although Sulovari’s study advised that further, more detailed research would need to be done before definitive conclusions could be drawn, Sulovari told HealthDay at the time, “This suggests an intriguing possibility that eye color can be useful in the clinic for alcohol dependence diagnosis.”
