UVM Health Network pediatrician Heidi Schumacher, M.D., assistant professor of pediatrics at the Larner College of Medicine and a member of Larner’s Vermont Child Health Improvement Program team, was interviewed by Josh Sharfstein, M.D., on the national Public Health On Call podcast for a story on Vermont schools struggling with a byproduct of the pandemic—chronic absenteeism. Also on the program was Deanne Haag, M.D.’99, Larner clinical assistant professor of pediatrics, a pediatrician with Monarch Maples Pediatrics in Enosburg Falls, Vermont.
Schumacher is part of a team at the UVM Leahy Institute for Rural Partnerships that’s researching ways to help decrease chronic absenteeism in schools, particularly in rural areas, through the Every Day Counts program.
