According to HC&O News, Practice Greenhealth, a Reston, Virginia–based nonprofit focused on sustainable health care, has ranked the University of Vermont Medical Center in the top 25 out of nearly 500 hospitals and health systems across the United States being honored with 2025 Environmental Excellence Awards for their efforts to reduce environmental impact, build climate resilience, and transform the future of health care amid growing concerns about the health effects of climate change.

The Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award is the organization’s highest honor. The top 25 facilities—which include both large academic medical centers and smaller regional hospitals—stand out for what Practice Greenhealth called “exemplary performance and innovation” in sustainability, from clean energy use to climate-resilient infrastructure.
