Sherrie Khadanga, M.D., a cardiologist at the University of Vermont Medical Center and associate professor of medicine at the Larner College of Medicine, was featured in a WWBT-TV story on women’s higher risk of so-called silent heart attack with no symptoms. About one in five heart attacks is silent, with women particularly vulnerable to undetected cardiac events.

Many women are familiar with pain and used to putting others’ needs first, making them less likely to reach out for help, Dr. Khadanga says.

“It’s important for women in particular to recognize if they feel something off, that they shouldn’t just brush it off,” she said.
