In an article on sleep in Real Simple, UVM Medical Center hospitalist Danielle Wall, M.D.’20, assistant professor of medicine at the Larner College of Medicine and resident sleep advisor at Sit ’n’ Sleep, weighs in on the top challenges to achieving deep sleep and what to do about them. 

For example, “Blackout curtains limit light exposure to support natural circadian rhythms,” says Dr. Wall, who believes that “creating the right sleep environment and choosing supportive products can make a big difference” when it comes to sleep. Wall’s advice also touched on the ideal pillow to “support your preferred sleep position—side, back, or stomach” and the benefits of white noise to minimize unwanted sounds, such as street traffic, loud neighbors, or a restless pet.
