Pulmonary and critical care specialist Daniel Weiss, M.D., Ph.D., professor of medicine at the Larner College of Medicine, affiliate professor of bioengineering in the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, and an internationally known expert in lung regenerative medicine and stem cell biology, began his term as president of the International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy (ISCT) at the organization’s annual meeting in May in Dublin, Ireland. He will serve a two-year term from May 2026 to May 2028.

Dr. Weiss has a long history with ISCT, having served in numerous leadership roles, including as the organization’s inaugural chief scientific officer. He is also the recipient of the 2024 ISCT Darwin J. Prockop Mentoring Award.

Founded in 1992, ISCT is a global society of clinicians, regulators, researchers, technologists, and industry partners with a shared vision to translate cell and gene therapy into safe and effective therapies to improve patients’ lives worldwide. The organization is a leader in pre-clinical and translational research, driving the development of cell and gene-based therapeutics.

ISCT provides a unique collaborative environment that addresses three key areas of translation: academia, regulatory, and commercialization. Through strong partnerships with regulatory agencies, academic institutions, and industry, ISCT helps move promising research toward becoming standard of care.

With more than 5,000 members across five geographic regions and representation from over 60 countries, ISCT brings together a global community committed to advancing the field of cell and gene therapy.
