Burlington Free Press Highlights UVM Cancer Center Chemo Gown Fashion Show

Infusion Fashions: A Chemo Gown Extravaganza, is coming to the Higher Ground Ballroom in South Burlington on Saturday, April 12, 5–9 p.m., the Burlington Free Press reports. The fashion show, featuring nurses and some patients wearing garments made from the blue gowns worn by nurses as they administer chemotherapy treatments, was created by Louise Friedeborn, RN, an oncology nurse at the UVM Cancer Center.

Proceeds from the event, which include a raffle and silent auction, will benefit the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge and Road to Recovery program. Last year’s event drew more than 300 attendees and raised $6,200 to support cancer patients and their families.

Friedeborn was inspired to create the event by her patients, who often joke with their nurses about “getting dressed up” to see them.

“There is so much stress around cancer and cancer treatment,” Leslie Twichell, RN, a nurse manager at UVM Center, said in a press release. “This is a way of showing the joy and beauty and love we have toward each other in this community. It’s also an open invitation to the community to see the great work we’re doing at the Cancer Center.”
