The University of Vermont’s Larner College of Medicine and Burlington-based UVM Health Network have launched a secure data enclave designed to support clinical and population health research while protecting patient privacy, Becker’s Health IT reports.

The initiative creates a protected environment for researchers to access and analyze sensitive information, such as EHRs and insurance claims, without compromising security, according to an Aug. 26 news release. Leaders said the goal is to remove barriers to large-scale, data-driven research and support evidence-based policymaking.

The enclave also integrates multiple data sources, including state-level public health data, to allow researchers to study regional health trends and disparities.
