Marking Clinical Trials Awareness Day on May 20, Larner Professor of Medicine and UVM Cancer Center member Steven Ades, M.D., M.Sc., explains how the standards of medical care today are the result of yesterday’s clinical trials.
“It takes many years, it takes a lot of work, and it takes a lot of patient participation too, but we wouldn’t have the benefits now in 2025 to our patients without all of the clinical research that got us here,” Ades said.
The UVM Cancer Center last year participated in 185 clinical trials and helped thousands of patients enroll in trials involving interventional, observational, and behavioral therapies that advance the leading-edge cancer care the center provides. More than 122,000 patients have enrolled in the various kinds of trials in 2024 and 25 new therapeutic clinical trials have begun since August.
