Addison County Independent Reports Annual Brain Bee Is All the Buzz at Larner
Buzzing back to the University of Vermont for its 16th year, the Vermont Brain Bee (VBB) was again held at the Larner College of Medicine on February 8. An annual tradition that welcomes high schoolers from across the state, the VBB allows students to showcase their knowledge of neuroscience, neuroanatomical structures, disorders, and beyond.
Participants met UVM neuroscience faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate and undergraduate students and attended neurological and psychiatric case presentations and a panel discussion. A keynote on “Stress: What Is It? What Should We Do About It?” was presented by Sayamwong Hammack, Ph.D., professor of psychological science and director of the Neuroscience Graduate Program.
Written, practical, and oral Q&A competitions featured questions from Brain Facts, a primer on the brain and nervous system published by the Society for Neuroscience, with the overall winner awarded a grand prize of $10,000 toward their expenses for the 2025 USA Brain Bee Championships.
