BIO

Larner Associate Professor and Chair of Emergency Medicine Ramsey Herrington, M.D., serves as senior associate dean of clinical affairs at UVM’s Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine. He works closely with Larner Dean Richard L. Page, M.D., to oversee the academic network department chairs and all physicians within the system, and holds a key role in guiding the clinical, academic, and quality and safety missions across the system. As a senior associate dean, he serves as a member of Larner’s senior leadership team.

Herrington joined the UVM Larner College of Medicine faculty as an assistant professor of emergency medicine in 2006 after completion of his medical degree at University of Alabama–Birmingham School of Medicine and his residency training, including service as chief resident, at Oregon Health Sciences University. He currently serves as associate professor and chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine for both the Larner College of Medicine and the UVM Health Network.

Herrington has served on multiple committees for the UVMHN and the UVM Medical Group, helping to expand the clinical mission and quality of care to the system hospitals. His committee work includes governance, finance, quality assurance, and curriculum, and he has contributed to notable quality improvements in patient experience, clinical efficiency, and care delivery. He led initiatives to fully integrate all UVMHN partner emergency departments, and he recently completed service as interim UVMHN chief operating officer. Herrington is the chief physician executive of the University of Vermont (UVM) Health Network, president and CEO of the UVM Health Network Medical Group, and 

A fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), Herrington also is a member of the Vermont ACEP Chapter, the American Board of Emergency Medicine, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, and the Society of Academic Chairs in Emergency Medicine. He has mentored medical students, residents, and junior faculty and has received numerous accolades for his teaching and service.
