Our fellowship prepares emergency medicine physicians for careers as clinician educators, emphasizing skills in simulation, curricular design, learner assessment, education research, and program evaluation. Fellows lead bi-monthly simulations for our residency and monthly in situ sessions in community and critical-access emergency departments, focusing on high-acuity, low-occurrence (HALO) procedures and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Fellows can choose a one- or two-year program, with the two-year option supporting an advanced graduate degree in medical education (e.g., MHPE, MSEd, MACM). They also have opportunities to participate in the ACEP/CORD Teaching Fellowship and attend education-focused conferences.
This fellowship enhances our UVM Health Network by promoting our academic mission in rural hospitals, teaching in diverse settings, and supporting faculty development. It is accredited by the SAEM Fellowship Approval Program.
Foundational Components: our fellowship curriculum draws on resources both locally and nationally, and encompasses five broad domains:
- Theories of learning and teaching methods
- Administration and program evaluation
- Didactic education and curricular design
- Professional development
- Education Research
