BIO
Neil A. Zakai, MD, MSc, is Professor of Medicine and Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine and a hematologist at the University of Vermont Medical Center. His clinical practice focuses on thrombosis, bleeding disorders, and classical hematology. Dr. Zakai’s research integrates epidemiology, clinical informatics, and hematology to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of thrombotic and bleeding disorders. He leads federally funded research examining venous thromboembolism, hospital-acquired bleeding and thrombosis, clonal hematopoiesis, aging, and cardiovascular disease, with a particular emphasis on the use of electronic health records and large population-based cohorts. He serves as Cancer Program Director of Informatics Data Science and co-directs the Study Design and Molecular Epidemiology Core of the Vermont Center for Cardiovascular and Brain Health. Dr. Zakai is committed to mentoring trainees and junior faculty and has held numerous leadership roles within national hematology and thrombosis organizations.
