Marian Alice Rollins-Raval, MD MPH is a Professor on the Clinical Scholar pathway at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. Dr. Rollins-Raval is board-certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Hematopathology. She serves in roles including Medical Director of the Hematology and Coagulation Laboratories at UVMMC, as well as Hematopathology Residency Rotation Director. Her clinical and research interests include quality improvement in laboratory coagulation and hematology. Dr. Rollins-Raval is actively engaged in educating medical students, medical laboratory scientists, residents, fellows, and clinical colleagues.
Internationally recognized for her expertise in laboratory coagulation, Dr. Rollins-Raval has served on committees and in leadership roles for NASCOLA, THSNA, ASCP, CAP, and ISLH and contributed to advancing laboratory coagulation and hematology. Her publications focus on guidelines and quality improvement in laboratory coagulation. A dedicated educator, she has received the “Excellence in Teaching in Clinical Pathology” from her residents and numerous “Golden Apples” from medical student classes. She has developed several resident coagulation rotations, as well as flipping the classroom in a virtual setting for an introductory medical student course in Hematology in her prior role at the University of New Mexico, as well as providing hands-on and didactic training for learners. Dr. Rollins-Raval’s service to pathology and patient care is evidenced by her commitment to continually providing the best testing and educational experience possible, advancing her fields of interest, and recognition of excellence by her peers.
As Medical Director of the Coagulation and Hematology Laboratories, Dr. Rollins-Raval is committed to improving the quality and efficiency of care in these areas, focusing on initiatives such as bone marrow collection and preparation, appropriate pathologist peripheral blood smear reviews, and availability and appropriateness of thrombophilia testing. Her work emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and service to improve clinical care, advance research, and enhance education.
