BIO
Dr. Onuigbo’s journey in medicine has been driven by a deep commitment to advancing equitable human health through learning, research and clinical practice. Over the years, he’s developed extensive expertise in preventive medicine — particularly in preventing the progression of kidney disease — as well as in various aspects of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis care. His research continues to focus on improving kidney care, understanding medication-related kidney injury and developing safer, more effective dialysis technologies. The most rewarding part of his work is listening to patients, and their families share their journeys from severe illness to full recovery. He also finds deep meaning in participating in philanthropic efforts — whether at the individual, community, national or international level — as they reflect his values of fairness and justice.
