Laura A. Greene, MD, is a Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont and an Attending Dermatopathologist at the University of Vermont Medical Center. She is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Dermatopathology and has served the institution in numerous clinical, educational, and leadership roles. Dr. Greene is currently the Program Director for the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Residency and maintains a high-volume dermatopathology practice with dermatopathology consultation and quality assurance in cutaneous oncology, including multidisciplinary tumor board. A long-standing educator, she is deeply engaged in teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and practicing physicians across undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education settings.
Dr. Greene is nationally recognized for her contributions to dermatopathology education and professional service, particularly through the American Society of Dermatopathology (ASDP), where she has served as Chair of the Maintenance of Certification Committee and currently serves as Assistant Director of the Case of the Month program and Chair of the Continuing Education Working Group. Her scholarly work includes multiple peer-reviewed publications, invited review articles, and editorial contributions, including editorial leadership for the Vulva chapter in Atlas of Gynecologic Pathology: A Pattern-Based Approach. She has served as a reviewer for premier journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology. A dedicated mentor, Dr. Greene has guided numerous residents and fellows toward successful dermatopathology careers and scholarly productivity. Her educational leadership has been recognized with teaching award nominations, and she is a Master Educator in the Larner College of Medicine Teaching Academy.
As Program Director for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Dr. Greene is committed to advancing high-quality, learner-centered graduate medical education while strengthening the integration of clinical excellence, educational innovation, and professional development. Over the next several years, her vision centers on continued growth of the residency program through innovative educational strategies, including the thoughtful incorporation of digital pathology and molecular pathology into daily diagnostic and educational workflows. Her current initiatives include modernizing residency curricula, enhancing narrative evaluation and feedback, expanding graduated responsibility frameworks, and supporting holistic, equitable recruitment and assessment processes. Through these efforts and continued collaboration at the institutional and national levels, Dr. Greene seeks to prepare residents and fellows for evolving practice environments, advance patient care, and contribute meaningfully to the mission of the Larner College of Medicine.
