BIO
Kiersten Tavares is the Medical Student Services Coordinator for the Office of Medical Education, at the UVM Larner College of Medicine. Since 2013, Kiersten has been a driving force in supporting medical students and advancing student services. She provides regular advisement to the Associate Dean for Students and Medical Student Services Administrative Assistant, ensuring seamless support for the Deans for Students, Director of Academic Achievement, and the Medical Student Wellbeing team.
Kiersten is recognized for her innovative approach to streamlining programs and services, including developing internal training for collaborative platforms such as SharePoint, MS Teams, and Maxient. She maintains critical aspects of students’ electronic academic records and facilitates key committees, including the Advancement, Fitness, and Honors Societies Selection Committees. Her organizational leadership extends to planning and supporting major university events, such as the Honors Society Induction Celebration, Orientation Week, Match Week, and student advising and support sessions (Summer Opportunities Panel, Leadership Lunch and Learn series, etc.). As a liaison to the Medical Student Council and over 50 affiliated student interest groups, Kiersten provides training, advising, event planning, and budget support, fostering a vibrant and inclusive student community. She has played a pivotal role in policy development, collaborating with campus partners to enhance institutional policies and student resources.
Kiersten’s commitment to excellence has been recognized through multiple nominations and awards, including the Larner College of Medicine Collette Award and Best Support Staff Award. Her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was instrumental in designing remote celebrations and compliance programs, ensuring student safety and engagement.
Beyond her primary role, Kiersten serves on the critical ad-hoc committees for content and tool development, is an active member of the UVM Staff Union bargaining team, and promotes wellness as a Department Wellness Co-Ambassador. She holds a Master’s in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies from UVM and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Dartmouth College, graduating magna cum laude.
Kiersten was born and raised in Vermont, and she lives in the New North End of Burlington with her spouse, Michael, and her toddler, Jameson (“J-mo). She enjoys bike commuting in fair weather (especially with J-mo in the buggy), walking and hiking all the amazing places in the area, and sampling incredible local food and beverages with her family and friends.
