BIO

Juli Anne Gardner, MD is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Robert Larner, MD College of Medicine at the University of Vermont and an Attending Pathologist at the University of Vermont Medical Center. She serves as the Medical Director of Cytogenetics and is a faculty member in Hematopathology. Dr. Gardner is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology by the American Board of Pathology. Her clinical expertise centers on cytogenetic and molecular diagnostics of hematologic malignancies, integrated diagnostic reporting, and laboratory quality and innovation. She is actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, technologists, and faculty.


Dr. Gardner is nationally recognized for her leadership in clinical cytogenetics, pathology education, and laboratory medicine. She currently serves as Chair of the College of American Pathologists/American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics Cytogenetics Committee, contributing to national standards, proficiency testing, and educational resources in cytogenetics and genomic testing. Her scholarly work includes more than 50 peer reviewed publications and numerous national and international presentations focused on cytogenetic and molecular findings in hematologic neoplasms. A dedicated educator, Dr. Gardner has developed multiple case based curricula and national teaching modules. She is actively committed to mentorship at the institutional and national levels.


In her leadership roles, Dr. Gardner is focused on advancing high quality, accessible, and evidence-based pathology services through innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and education. Her current initiatives include optimizing diagnostic algorithms, integrating emerging genomic technologies into clinical practice, and supporting laboratory preparedness and quality improvement efforts. Through her clinical practice, scholarship, and service, she remains committed to improving patient care, advancing the field of pathology, and supporting the mission of the Larner College of Medicine.
