BIO
Dr. Jonathan J. Russin is Neurosurgeon-in-Chief at the University of Vermont and holds the Raymond M.P. Donaghy Professorship. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Humanities from Drew University, Madison NJ. Dr. Russin received his medical degree from New Jersey Medical School, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, graduating as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed his internship in general surgery and residency in neurosurgery at the University of Southern California. He performed a fellowship in cerebrovascular and skull base neurosurgery from the Barrow Neurosurgical Institute under Dr. Robert Spetzler. After his training Dr. Russin spent 10yrs on faculty at the University of Southern California where he served as the Director of Cerebrovascular Surgery, Associate Director of the USC Neurorestoration Center and Fellowship Director for open cerebrovascular surgery. As a surgeon-scientist Dr. Russin has over 200 publications. He has made significant clinical innovations in cerebral bypass surgery, developing novel strategies and techniques for cerebral and spinal revascularization. His work with the Neurorestoration Center made contributions to the literature on human neurogenesis and functional brain imaging. His work has been published in Nature Biomedical Engineering, Nature Communications, Science Translational Medicine, Cell Stem Cell and Neuron. Dr. Russin’s collaborative work with the Caltech Optical Imaging Laboratory earned him an appointment as a Visiting Associate at the California Institute of Technology. Dr. Russin is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), and the AANS/CNS Joint Cerebrovascular Section.
