BIO

Jill Warrington, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor on the Clinical Scholar’s Pathway at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. During her 17-year tenure at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, Dr. Warrington has served in a wide range of roles including general surgical pathology, autopsy, and clinical chemistry. For the past 12 years, she has supported community initiatives including serving as Chief Medical Officer and Laboratory Director at Aspenti Health as well as the Laboratory Director/CLIA Director at the Vermont Department of Health Laboratory.  She has served on several national committees and currently is serving on the College of American Pathologists’ Toxicology Committee and the Association of Public Health Laboratories’ Opioid Biosurveillance Task Force and the Laboratory Systems and Standards Committee.  Her clinical and research interests include Population Health Management, Public Health, Mobile Health, Addiction, Substance Use Disorder, Opioid Use Disorder, Test Utilization, Health Outcomes Research, and Rural and Community Health.


Dr. Warrington’s scholarly contributions center on translational medicine efforts, showcasing and promulgating best clinical practice with a focus on innovation and quality improvement. Dr. Warrington has received several scholarship awards including: American Association for Clinical Chemistry Outstanding Speaker Award, University of Vermont Medical Group Research Award, Executive War College, Clinical Lab 2.0 Innovation Award and Society of ’67 Award, Board, Academic Pathology and American Society of Clinical Pathology 2024 poster session, Blue Ribbon Finalist. In addition, through Dr. Warrington’s leadership garnered additional organizational awards such as the Vermont Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve “Above and Beyond” award, the Jack Barry Award from the Vermont Association for Mental Health and Addiction Recovery, Propriety Laboratory Application, Code 0227U designation, Centers of Disease Control/Association of Public Health Laboratories Excellent in Public Health Response, Laboratory Response Network for Chemical Threat. She is an active champion of mentorship across trainees, faculty and laboratory scientists. She has developed national educational programs, piloting online programs in connection with commercial partners such as HealthStream and Testing.com. She has actively introduced dozens of scientists to research, providing direct guidance for those interested in scientific writing. Dr. Warrington is nationally recognized for her expertise in Toxicology.  


Dr. Warrington is deeply passionate about Population, Public and Community Health, particularly in rural settings. In collaboratively forwarding best practices, she believes in prioritizing the people she works with and the systems and processes that drive the work. The resulting high performing teams support our collective efforts to our College’s mission ‘to educate a diverse group of dedicated physicians and biomedical scientists to serve across all the disciplines of medicine; to bring hope to patients by advancing medical knowledge through research; to integrate education and research to advance the quality and accessibility of patient care; and to engage with our communities to benefit Vermont and the world.’

Bio
