BIO

Jay S. Raval, M.D., is a tenured professor at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. He serves as Division Chief of Laboratory Medicine and CLIA Director of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Vermont Medical Center and is board-certified in Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine. His clinical and research interests include evidence-based apheresis, transfusion medicine, and cellular therapy laboratory practices. Dr. Raval is actively engaged in educating undergraduates, medical students, residents, and fellows.

Nationally and internationally recognized for his contributions to apheresis and transfusion medicine, Dr. Raval has served on committees for the American Society for Apheresis (ASFA), the World Apheresis Association (WAA), and the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB) and contributed to advancing the fields of apheresis and transfusion medicine. He is a member of the board of directors for ASFA and WAA.  He has published over 400 articles, abstracts, and book chapters. A dedicated educator, he has received numerous local teaching accolades throughout his career as well as been awarded the ASFA Lecturer Society Award. He has also developed innovative curricula for apheresis and transfusion medicine, providing hands-on and didactic training for learners.  Dr. Raval’s service to his fields and patient care is evidenced by his commitment to continually provide the best treatments possible and move his fields forward.

In his various roles, Dr. Raval is committed to advancing Pathology and Laboratory Medicine for the University of Vermont Medical Center and the health system, partnering with researchers within and outside of the University of Vermont to help answer critical questions in his areas of interest, supporting his colleagues within and outside the department, and helping to train the next generation of physicians, nurses, technologists, and other healthcare workers. His work emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and service to improve clinical care, advance research, and enhance education.
