BIO
Erika Ziller, PhD is an Associate Professor of Medicine and directs the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine’s Health Services Research Center and its Northeast Rural Health Research Center. Dr. Ziller has more than 25 years’ experience studying rural health care access and rural population health. These studies have included rural-urban differences in health insurance coverage, out-of-pocket costs, rural cancer screening and access to lung cancer care, tobacco and other substance use, and mental health care access. Her work has been funded by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Maine Health Access Foundation, the National Institute of Mental Health, and multiple state Medicaid programs. Before she arrived at the University of Vermont, Dr. Ziller served as Director of the Maine Rural Health Research Center and Chair of Public Health at the University of Southern Maine.
Dr. Ziller received her MS in health policy and her PhD in public policy from the University of Southern Maine. She is a long-standing member of the National Rural Health Association, serves on the New England Rural Health Association’s Education & Workforce Committee, and is a member of the University of Vermont Cancer Center. Dr. Ziller has co-authored over forty journal articles and book chapters on rural health topics, and her work has appeared in regional and national media outlets.
