BIO

As a movement disorders neurologist, Deepak Gupta has over 5 years of outpatient clinical experience, with a focus on Parkinson’s disease (PD), deep brains stimulation programming and botulinum toxin injections, as well as PD clinical trials and inpatient Neurology Attending experience. As a physician informatician, he has been serving as the Epic Specialty Champion since 2021 and as the Director of Neurology Informatics since 2023. As a medical informatics researcher, he has secured two federally funded research grants, including an NIH K23-equivalent award in 2021 and NIH R01-equivalent award in 2023, from the US Department of Defense (DOD). As a medical education researcher, he has developed a novel curriculum in the domain of health system science in with institutional grant funding from the UVMMC Foundation in 2020.

His career objectives in neurology and informatics over the next 5 years are three-fold: 1) be a continually grant-funded researcher in applied informatics of Parkinson’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders; 2) explore the path of a physician informatician leader in translational and clinical research informatics, alongside developing a clinical informatics portfolio in neurology; 3) continue practicing as a movement disorders neurologist. As for his career objectives in the niche of medical education over next five years, he hopes to further develop the health system science curriculum he has developed and develop graduate courses in topics of modelling biomedical systems and research informatics.
